Our Homeschool Journey

I’ll be honest: I never planned to homeschool our kids…

Until my time as a public elementary school counselor.

Don’t get me wrong. I enjoyed every minute of my job. It was challenging and rewarding. I loved the passion and dedication of the staff.

Yet I saw the brokeness within the system. I heard the frustration from students and staff alike. And my heart broke for the untapped potential within each student.

God began stirring in my heart about the importance of homeschooling our children, of intentionally investing in who God created them to be.

So, I stepped away from my career and decided to invest in my own kiddos instead.

We pulled our daughter from the Montessori preschool she had attended and began our journey of homeschooling. I researched curriculum and educational philosophies: unschooling, Charlotte Mason, classical, eclectic, and more.

I had no idea how many ways there were to homeschool!

We are now seven years into our homeschooling journey. We’ve grown individually and collectively, and I’m so thankful for the ability to celebrate the uniqueness of our children.

Don’t get me wrong. It’s not easy. But the best things in life usually aren’t.

There are days where I want to quit. There are times I see the worst version of myself and my kids. Days where I wonder, “What was I thinking?”

We don’t have it all together. We aren’t doing everything perfectly. There are tears and raised voices from time to time. But there is also a lot of laughter, joy, and beautiful memories woven into many of our days.

The longer I walk this road, the more convinced I am that God has called parents to take a stand and disciple a generation to change the world.

Encouraging, empowering, and equipping families to thrive in home-based education has become one of my greatest joys and passions.

I want you to know you CAN do this. And most importantly, you don’t have to do it alone. I’m here to help however I can!
