As a clinical social worker and ministry leader, I have spent countless hours counseling women in abusive situations. Recently, a lot of abuse has been exposed in churches, and the issue is finally gaining some attention. Every counselor, church leader, and community member needs to understand abuse and know how to support those in abusive situations. If you are not in an abusive situation yourself, you likely know someone who is.

I was blessed with the opportunity to review Charlene D. Quint’s new book: “Overcoming the Narcissist, Sociopath, Psychopath, and Other Domestic Abusers: The Comprehensive Handbook to Recognize, Remove, and Recover from Abuse.” This resource is phenomenal because it truly is a one-stop shop! Plus, it has a reversible cover so a woman can keep it in her home without her abuser knowing what it is! Quint truly has thought of everything!

I love the Biblical approach Quint takes on the subject. The book is over 570 pages, and every page is powerful! I skimmed each topic as both a clinician and a ministry leader. I wish I had had this resource when I first started out in counseling and pastoral ministry! Quint leaves no stone unturned, and this resource is brimming with hope and practical solutions! It is Biblically sound and will bless everyone who utilizes it.

Quint covers everything from recognizing abusers to specifically how to remove them from your life, and how to heal and recover from abuse. She incorporates lists of other resources, including books and even specific scriptures and songs, to encourage women going through or recovering from abuse! She also includes many organizations that help victims of abuse. Grab your copy today and let’s put an end to the cycle of abuse!

NEW WORKBOOK FOR SUPPORT GROUPS & BIBLE STUDIES

In 2025, Charlene released a brand new workbook to guide and equip support groups and Bible studies to recognize, remove, and recover from abuse.

It is broken into 3 sections: Recognizing Abuse, Removing Yourself from Abuse, and Recovering from Abuse: Healing and Becoming the Woman God Designed You to Be.

The workbook provides everything you need to host or participate in a group study based on the book.

It’s an incredible resource that I highly recommend!
