We love diving into good books as a family, and spend a lot of time together with read-alouds. Progeny Press has created some in-depth study guides for students to enhance their literacy and engage with books in new ways. Our family has been going through The Little House on the Prarie Series, so I was excited to see that Farmer Boy Study Guide was one of their featured products.Â

How We Used the Product in our Homeschool
My 4th grade daughter and I read the book aloud together and then took time several days each week to go through the study guide together. I printed a copy and we went through it that way. We prefer primarily paper curriculum, though we did test out the features in the interactive PDF online to explore functionality and ease of use.Â
We also took time to do some of the fun and creative activities like making various treats, completing the craft suggestions, etc.Â
This guide covered so many subject areas beyond just literature. It incorporates history, geography, and more! We dove into vocabulary, writing exercises, discussions, and more together. Â
What I Loved
The Farmer Boy Study Guide is a lot more interactive than I thought it would be. There were a wide variety of activities to engage my student. It helped with reading comprehension, vocabulary-building, writing, geography, history, and more!
I really appreciated all of the projects and activity ideas throughout the guide. These were my daughter’s favorite features as well.
I liked that you could choose to print the guide or complete it on the computer. I also liked that you are able to use it with all of your students, which makes it a great value.
There were word search puzzles and other simple activities woven throughout the guide in addition to the discussion questions and vocabulary activities. There were also spots to dive into dictionary definitions and teach your student how to utilize various study tools.
Final Thoughts
Overall, these are a great value. For younger students, more help and interaction will be required from the parents, though older students should be able to complete the guides more independently.
The guides are interactive and comprehensive, and I definitely recommend them. You’ll find a ton of guides to choose from on the Progeny Press website, and four of their high school guides are considered a full literature credit for the year.Â
