Have you ever wondered about the history of Christianity? Or explored the lives of heroes who paved the way for us to worship Jesus freely, study His Word from the comfort of our homes, and share the Good News of the Gospel with people around the world? Have you searched for resources to easily teach your children about this important part of our history?
Look no further! Danika Cooley’s new book Why Did the Reformation Happen? dives into this and more! And I am sharing everything you need to know about the book as well as my thoughts after going through it with my own kids.
“Reform, or change, didn’t happen in the Church all at once. It started with a few brave voices–the Reformers.”

My Review:
There is so much church history packed into these fun pages! The information is laid out perfectly for your homeschool studies. It is packed with interesting history, fun facts, and tons of action to keep your kids (and you) turning pages! I loved learning about so many heroes of the faith in a succinct way that flows from page to page. It’s perfect for family read alouds or for your middle grade (aged 8-11) student to read on their own. I highly recommend it!
A Child’s Perspective:
My daughter wanted to share her thoughts with you as well, so here is her review:
“I didn’t know so many people had to fight for Christianity. It was really interesting and I loved all the pictures. I liked that the chapters were short and there was more info on things I had already heard about too. I can’t wait to read her other books.”

History is an important part of homeschool because we need to understand not only the important moments but also the mistakes, so history doesn’t repeat itself! There are crucial lessons to be learned!
Teaching history is important for homeschool because it helps students develop an awareness and understanding of themselves, others, and the world around them. The education promotes spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of individuals, families, groups and communities. Learning how and why things are the way they are right now can foster tolerance and help people set effective boundaries, as well as see how to move forward for improvement in the near future and for the next generation.
I think we make better choices when we understand the consequences on history.
It is important to learn from history – both the good and the bad.
If we don’t understand what happened in the past we can’t easily understand what’s happening in the present.
Learning history helps us to better understand what is happening now.
